Vaping is everywhere. This is especially true in suburban areas. On a major roadway in NJ, I have driven past 5 consecutive vape shops in a 10 mile radius. Leonardo DiCaprio is doing it, so there has to be something intriguing about this right?? Wrong. Vaping is becoming a serious issue, as the number of teens and children that are vaping are at an all time high. This is all due to the marketing of the e-cigarette liquid with different flavors and scents.
Are E-cigarettes a safe alternative to cigarettes?
Well, the marketing companies would definitely like you to think so. With vaping, you are still consuming nicotine. The liquid cartridges are filled with nicotine, fragrance, and chemicals. Because the e-cigarette burns this liquid into vapor, it is not burning tobacco, therefore you are not inhaling as much carbon dioxide and tar as you would with traditional cigarettes. Regardless, with vaping, you are still inhaling a large dose of nicotine, and other harmful chemicals. There is no safe alternative to smoking, because smoking is just NOT SAFE! So, please do not try to use e-cigarettes if you are trying to quit smoking. The only way to quit smoking, is to simply quit smoking. There are many ways that quitting can be achieved.
There is no doubt that nicotine is addictive, and it is highly toxic in higher doses. Did you know that nicotine was once used as an insecticide? That is how toxic it is, and more and more people are consuming this daily. The bottom line is that there are no clinical studies that measure long term use of e-cigarettes. What happens when someone stops inhaling the tars of traditional cigarettes, and only inhales the nicotine? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain…you will increase nicotine exposure to your body.
